Born and raised in Texas, Kevin started his musical endeavors in the Fort Bend Boys Choir at the age of 9 and, after taking voice lessons for only a short amount of time, began taking piano lessons.  He demonstrated musical promise on the piano and won several guild competitions and talent shows.  It was in middle school that he unintentionally signed up for orchestra instead of band and found his life passion in the cello.  By high school, Kevin began studying privately with Ann Victor and participated in annual region and all-state competitions, along with a variety of summer music festivals.

Kevin then attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he studied with Hai Zheng-Olefsky and received a B.M. in cello performance from the Sarofim School of Fine Arts.  He proceeded to the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston to begin his masters with David Tomatz and Vagram Saradjian, and, midway through his studies, was invited to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia to study with Darry Dolezal and the Esterhazy Quartet and participate as cellist of the MU Graduate String Quartet on full scholarship.  Kevin accepted the invitation and completed his M.M. in cello performance at the MU School of Music.  After Missouri, Kevin headed to the east coast to complete his Artist Diploma under the tutelage of Nicholas Tzavaras of the Shanghai Quartet at the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University.  Kevin currently teaches and performs in the Houston metropolitan area and plays on a 1995 Peter Shaw cello from the Amati Violin Shop.
